Course Information

The QA Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling (RQF) is an accredited, regulated and quality assured qualification that is recognised throughout the UK. This comprehensive 1/2 day course has been designed to benefit Learners through developing their understanding of the principles of safe manual handling so they can apply what they have learned to their working environment and make their practices safer.

This qualification is suitable for all employees to raise their awareness of the risks of unsafe manual handling practices and for people who might have to carry out manual handling as part of their job, e.g. handling deliveries, parcels and boxes. It is suitable:

  • To raise awareness about the importance of safe manual handling.
  • As an introduction to those starting work which may involve carrying out manual handling activities.
  • For those returning to work where manual handling activities may be required.
  • As safety refresher training.

Note: This qualification is a theory based qualification. Learners who need practical training should complete QA Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (RQF).

Course Duration

The Principles of Manual Handling course that we deliver has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) requirement of 4 hours. The maximum period to achieve this qualification (including any referrals) is 4 weeks.

Syllabus

Common manual handling injuries / Manual handling laws / Responsibilities of employers and employees Risk assessments / Safe movement principles associated with manual handling including the body's: Musculoskeletal system, Centre of gravity, Lever system / Theory of safe manual handling principles including: Preparing for a lift, Solo lifting, carrying and lowering an object, Team manual handling / Manual handling equipment / Types of manual handling aids and equipment / Maintenance and requirements for testing.

Assessment & Certification

Course assessments includes:

  • 1 x Theory assessments (Multiple Choice Question Papers).

Upon successful completion of this course, individuals will receive a QA Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handing (RQF) printed certificate as well as a credit-card style license. This qualification is valid for 3 years from date of certification. This qualification may be used towards other qualifications at the same and higher level, plus aid career progression in a relevant profession.

Entry Requirements

A maximum of 16 students can be accommodated on this course. Please note that students must be at least 14 years old on the first day of training. There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent.

Location

We are able to deliver our Principles of Manual Handling training course on your premises (subject to a pre-course assessment) to reduce the costs associated with taking time out and travelling. Alternatively, you can book onto our next available course at our Snetterton Training Facility.
