Course Information

The QA Level 2 Award in Principles and Practice of Moving People Safely (RQF) is an accredited, regulated and quality assured qualification that is recognised throughout the UK. This intensive 1-day course has been designed to benefit Learners through developing their understanding of the principles of moving people safely, providing them with the opportunity to practise and apply these principles so they can operate in a safer working environment when moving people.

This qualification is for ideal for people who work, or intend to work, in a role that involves assisting and moving people. It is suitable:

  • As an introduction to those starting work which involves moving people • For those returning to work where moving people is required.
  • As safety refresher training.

Course Duration

The Principles and Practices of Moving People Safely course that we deliver has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) requirement of 8 hours. The maximum period to achieve this qualification (including any referrals) is 4 weeks.


Importance of safe manual handling / Injuries and ill health caused by incorrect manual handling / Employee and employer requirements / Consequences of non-compliance with health and safety requirements / Manual handling risk assessments / Personal handling plans / Personal safety, health and dignity issues Unsafe manoeuvres / Anatomy of the spine and mechanics of movement / Principles of moving people safely / Procedures for emergency handling / Requirements for testing and servicing equipment / Practice of safe and efficient movement principles: Using aids and equipment, Moving a person on their own, Moving a person as part of a team.

Assessment & Certification

Course assessments includes:

  • 1 x Theory assessment (Multiple Choice Question Paper).
  • 1 x Practical assessment.

Upon successful completion of this course, individuals will receive a QA Level 2 Award in Principles and Practice of Moving People Safely (RQF) printed certificate as well as a credit-card style license. This qualification is valid for 3 years from date of certification. This qualification may be used towards other qualifications at the same and higher level, plus aid career progression in a relevant profession.

Entry Requirements

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course. Please note that students must be at least 14 years old on the first day of training. There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy.
