Course Information

The QA Level 2 Award for Community First Responders (RQF) is an accredited, regulated and quality assured qualification that is recognised throughout the UK. This comprehensive 2-day course aims to benefit Learners by providing them with the knowledge and skills to administer initial emergency care at life-threatening incidents prior to the arrival of further medical assistance. Learners will gain the necessary skills associated with assessment, treatment and stabilisation of patients.

This qualification is for people who are performing or aspiring to perform as a community first responder.

Course Duration

The Community First Responder Aid at Work course we deliver has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) requirement of 15 hours. In order to facilitate continual learning, the course should be delivered over 2 consecutive days; however, this can be adapted to suit your individual requirements. The maximum period to achieve this qualification (including any referrals) is 10 weeks.


The role and responsibilities of a community first responder / Assessing a scene at an emergency incident Assessing a patient, including: Primary survey, Secondary survey, Patient handover / Assessing and managing a patient's airway / Managing an unresponsive patient who is not breathing normally / How to use an Automated External Defibrillator during a cardiopulmonary resuscitation attempt / Administration of emergency oxygen Community first response equipment / Managing patients: in shock, with breathing difficulties, with anaphylaxis, with a suspected major illness, Conducting and recording base line observations.

Assessment & Certification

Course assessments includes:

  • 8 x Practical assessments.
  • 2 x Theory assessments (Multiple Choice Question Papers).

Upon successful completion of this course, individuals will receive a QA Level 2 Award for Community First Responders (RQF) printed certificate as well as a credit-card style license. This qualification is valid for 3 years from date of certification.

This qualification can be used as a stepping-stone to progress onto higher levels of prehospital care qualifications, such as the QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (QCF), which will provide individuals with further knowledge and skills to deal with a broader range of emergency incidents.

This qualification also offers those achieving it greater opportunities to progress their career into other areas of prehospital emergency care, such as the ambulance service. Furthermore the qualification can be used a stepping-stone in an individual's career and may lead to various employment opportunities in a range of different healthcare settings.

Entry Requirements

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course. Please note that students must be at least 17 years old on the first day of training. There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.


We are able to deliver our Community First Responder training course on your premises (subject to a pre-course assessment) to reduce the costs associated with taking time out and travelling. Alternatively, you can book onto our next available course at our Snetterton Training Facility.
