The QA Level 4 Award in Immediate Life Support (RQF) is an accredited, regulated and quality assured qualification that is recognised throughout the UK. This intensive 1-day course has been designed to provide Learners with a continuing professional development (CPD) opportunity. To develop and maintain their clinical knowledge and skills when responding and providing immediate life support to patients in cardiorespiratory arrest or experiencing life-threatening illness in the prehospital care environment in line with current practice.
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide emergency care to patients requiring emergency and urgent care/treatment. This qualification is relevant to those working as event medical providers, emergency ambulance personnel, registered healthcare professionals and those in specialist roles within the emergency services and military.
The Immediate Life Support course we deliver has a Total Qualification Time (TQT) requirement of 10 hours. The maximum period to achieve this qualification (including any referrals) is 4 weeks.
Scene management / Methods and procedures needed to assess and manage an incident / Managing a patient with life-threatening or non-life threatening illness and injury / Post incident procedures / Airway management / Immediate life support procedures, including: Return of Spontaneous Circulation (RoSC), Patient handovers / Modifications required during cardiac arrest for: Third trimester pregnancy, Neck stoma / Immediate life support treatment algorithm / End of life care / Using the National Early Warning Score (NEWS).
Assessment & Certification
Course assessments includes:
- 1 x Theory assessments (Multiple Choice Question Papers).
- 2 x Practical assessments.
- 1 x Skills test.
Upon successful completion of this course, individuals will receive a QA Level 4 Award in Immediate Life Support (RQF) printed certificate as well as a credit-card style license. This qualification is valid for 1 year from date of certification. This qualification may be used towards other qualifications at the same and higher levels, such as the QA Level 5 Diploma in First Response Emergency and Urgent Care (RQF) plus aid career progression for example in a National Health Service Trust and/or Private Ambulance Service.
A maximum of 6 students can be accommodated on this course. Please note that students must be at least 18 years old on the first day of training.
Learners must have successfully completed:
- QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (QCF or RQF)
- Or similar qualification, e.g. Associate Ambulance Practitioner, IHCD Ambulance Aid or be a registered healthcare professional working in an emergency care or primary care environment.
Equivalent qualifications must be mapped to the Learning Outcomes and Assessment Criteria of the QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (QCF or RQF), and be submitted to QA for consideration, showing how comparable they are in relation to meeting the same skills and knowledge as well as the assessment requirements.
