The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), who are responsible for the encouragement, regulation and enforcement of workplace health, safety and welfare, have just released new statistics for 2017-18.
They revealed that 555,000 work injuries occurred throughout the year, which transcribed into approximately 3,900,000 working days lost (HSE, 2018). This resulted in a £5,200,000,000 cost to the United Kingdom (HSE, 2018).
Effective, safe and prompt treatment given by well-trained workplace first aiders can reduce the amount of time in which a casualty is not at work. This can ultimately reduce the costs associated with working days lost, and with the new financial year fast approaching, it may be prudent to invest in a long-term cost saving strategy.
